The Marjory Gordon Program for Clinical Reasoning and Knowledge Development is a global initiative of the Connell School of Âé¶¹ÉçÇø and NANDA International, an organization that works to standardize nursing terminology.ÌýThe Gordon Program, which started in 2017, promotes the advancement of nursing knowledge on an international scale through events and programming that encourage nurses to engage in dialogue and increase their knowledge on issues such as patients' response to illness, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and patient care delivery.

Dorothy A. Jones, Ed.D., APRN, FAAN, FNI, is theÌýDirector of the Marjory Gordon Program for Knowledge Development and Clinical Reasoning at the Connell School of Âé¶¹ÉçÇø, where she formerly served as Chair of the Adult Health Department from 1995 to 1999. She is a senior nurse scientist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Âé¶¹ÉçÇø, Massachusetts, and former president of the Eastern Âé¶¹ÉçÇø Research Society. She has been involved in nursing language development serving as past president of the North American Âé¶¹ÉçÇø Diagnosis Association. Dr. Jones’ research includes a NIH-funded study focusing on patients’ recovery at home following ambulatory surgery, theory development related to Margaret Newman’s Health as Expanding Consciousness, evaluation research, and instrument development.
Her many awards include Âé¶¹ÉçÇø College’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2005, Partners Award for Excellence in Practice in 1998 and 2003, the Indiana University School of Âé¶¹ÉçÇø Outstanding Alumni Award, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Founders Award in 2000. She was named a Living Legend by the American Nurses Association Massachusetts in 2017. Jones has a strong record of curriculum development and mentorship with graduate students, as evidenced by their scholarship nationally and internationally. She received her B.S.N. from Long Island University and Brooklyn Hospital School of Âé¶¹ÉçÇø in Brooklyn, New York, and earned graduate degrees from Indiana University and Âé¶¹ÉçÇø University.

A Global Partnership
NANDA-I is a professional association that defines and standardizes nursing terminology used in nursing practice, research, educational curricula, and informatics.
The Marjory Gordon Program, a focus of the Connell School of Âé¶¹ÉçÇø and NANDA-I, advances, educates, and disseminates nursing knowledge internationally. The Program also fosters a deeper understanding for the articulation of nursing’s contribution to patient, family, and community care outcomes through clinical reasoning and the testing and refinement of nursing language (nursing diagnosis).
Through online educational programs and a biennial conference, nurses can participate in the advancement of nursing knowledge and engage in dialogue around clinical reasoning and the communication of nursing judgments about patients using nursing diagnosis.Ìý
These experiences foster dialogue among nurses and other professionals and uncover nursing knowledge that will influence education, change professional practice, impact health policy, and help shape the future of nursing research.
